Grants for Singapore startups building digital products

Where to start, what each kind of scheme is for, and what to prepare before you apply.

Singapore has a generous range of support for companies building digital products. It can also be confusing. This is a short orientation based on what our clients have used. Schemes change often, so always check the current criteria with the agency before you plan around one.

Three broad types of support

  • Pre-approved solutions for SMEs adopting off-the-shelf digital tools, where the vendor and package are already on a list.
  • Project-based grants for companies building something new or upgrading capabilities, usually co-funding a share of qualifying costs.
  • Startup programmes for early-stage founders, often combining funding with mentorship and matching investment.

Custom software built by a studio usually falls under the second type, which typically requires a project proposal, quotes and a clear business case.

What to prepare

  1. A one-page description of the problem and the outcome you expect
  2. A scoped proposal with deliverables, timeline and cost breakdown
  3. Your company’s latest financials
  4. How you’ll measure success after the project

Timing matters

Most grants require you to apply before signing a contract or starting work. Costs incurred before approval usually don’t count. Build the application time, often several weeks, into your plan.

How we helpWe don’t apply on your behalf, but we can provide the scoped proposal, quotes and technical description most applications ask for.

Grants are worth exploring, but don’t let them shape your product. Build what your customers need, then see what support fits, not the other way round.
