Website and try-on for an eyewear store

A website that sells frames like a magazine, with an in-browser try-on that sends people to the shop rather than replacing it.

Editorial homepage: frames first, with try-on and eye-test booking one click away. The client’s name, branding and web addresses have been changed in all screens.
The challenge

Editorial website and virtual try-on for an independent eyewear store.

The store’s frames are designed in-house and made in small runs. Their site was a product catalogue that undersold the craft, and customers kept turning up without appointments for eye tests the optometrists couldn’t fit in.

They wanted try-on, but not a gimmick: the point was to get the right frames on the table before the customer walked in.

What we did

Our approach

  1. Editorial, not catalogueBig photography, short stories about each frame’s name and material, and prices shown plainly.
  2. Try-on that fitsFace tracking in the browser estimates face width and suggests a size before showing the frame.
  3. From try-on to appointmentSaved frames are attached to the eye-test booking so they’re waiting on the table.
  4. Bookings the team controlsOptometrists set their own availability; walk-ins see the next free slot on a tablet at the door.
Virtual try-on fitted to face width, then straight into an eye-test booking.
In hindsight

What we’d do differently

Try-on works well on newer phones and poorly on older Android devices in low light. About one in ten sessions fall back to a static size guide, which is fine, but we oversold the feature in the first launch email.
